EBAY PRICES

I know I have covered this one before (see my earlier thread titled 'DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST') but it is still happening but not by people on this forum I hope?
Many genuine items are listed on Ebay at either the list price or just below. If you are the only bidder then you are ok but as soon as you enter a bidding war then you will be paying over the odds, not only for the item in question but by paying multiple P&P charges as well.

Just out of interest I was watching the new handlebars Daxman was selling which completed last night. They went for £102.99 + P&P while the current price from DS is £66 + P&P.

It's a market-place out there and everybody is free to spend what they wish but surely there is no point chucking money away? It takes just a few minutes work on the web to get part numbers & prices.

Sure it were exactly the same as the ones Dave S. is selling?

Just to inform you, not all 'Honda' items being currently sold (for example from CMSNL) are 100% genuine, even when they carry the Honda mark.

Parts such as seats, switches, ignitions, headlight buckets,... can't be bought the same as they were 40 years ago.
For example, maybe these were rare z50m handlebars?
Rare version from the mighty dax, with clutch lever holder, or 2 mirrors,...

There's more than meets the eye ;) and NOS parts became very rare and thus expensive...

I've seen this too, but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that people haven't heard of DSS. When most people are looking for replacement parts for old motorbikes they will often go to the dealer on look on ebay.

It's a shame people don't find this website before they visit ebay, they could save themselves a lot of money in the process!

Quite sure, they were normal UK spec ST70 bars. It is just that people don't do any research and always assume Ebay is cheaper.

Agreed there are plenty of non-genuine parts out there and I have said before, beware of 'genuine' items that are now manufactured from sources in the Far East outside of Japan.
I looked into the 'genuine' and pattern seats being sold by CSMNL (and through other outlets) and the 'genuine' ones were identical to the pattern ones while neither were the same as the 35-year old original. I guess that Honda are having them re-manufactured in the Far East and slight differences are accepted as long as the finished product looks & works the same and is of an acceptable quality.

Hi gents and gentess's
some of the original Honda parts were sourced from outside of Japan and there is a good chance that some of the repro stuff is made with the same tooling as the original.
The issue really is (that old chestnut) do you use it or just look at it.
I use my Lady Dax a lot but now the evenings start at 16.00 the fact of having very dim lights with the exception of brake lights being at a road junction is not a lot of fun so upgrading to 12 volts is a good idea again not original ?
And just to poor petrol on the barbecue when i brought my original Lady in 1972 the first thing I did was replace the flowery type with an all black (how things have changed) seat.
Also nice to hear from Litch again good to know he is still watching Ebay for that bargain probably the same one I watch for
Cheers Tuftynutkin
P.S wish I had handle bar heaters, maybe for christmas !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Tufty,
first of all, you would make me very happy selling me thej flowery seat!
Second, don't try to fit the handle bar heaters, the coils will start smelling funny very soon.

If you want better lights, but keep the original 6v system (and thus, not replace the battery etc) you could buy a 6v CDI system of ebay.
These were used on the Finish Z50j bikes, and are now available as repro.
(Original Honda would set you back +-500$, repros seem to work very well and sell complete for 60 - 100$)
These have uprated light coils, so it might be what you're looking for?
