New project ST70

Whilst most were sleeping in and enjoying their Easter Friday off, I was hurtling all over the country collecting my new project. St70 in need of a good home.

She has never been registered (estimated as 1970's), but will take pics of vin and send to VJMC for confirmation so I can a year related reg. The mileage is genuine 991 miles !! and nothing looks like its been mucked about with (other than air filter), but again time will tell.

This is going to be a complete strip and rebuild (ShotBlasted, Powder coated, NOS parts where possible, although this is getting harder if the Chaly is anything to go by). I have an ST70 air filter winging its way from Germany, and she will have to loose that exhaust, and other than a missing main stand she is complete (even has original keys), tyres are even good to go, no splits and look original. I gather the main (centre) stand is a rare as hens teeth so that should be fun. That light switch is gonna have to move back to the correct place, but it does work !!!, and I would guess by the owner putting it inside the headlamp shell it has been protected.

Nice one! :) Looks a great solid bike to start a project on.
Looking forward to seeing how the rebuild goes.

Just finished an ST70 restore of my own. I made the mistake of keeping a spreadsheet of all the costs, down to the nearest £.
Dont do that!! Its frightening! :o

I blew some ether (quick start) into the air filter and the old gal spluttered, so cant be much wrong with the engine (fingers crossed)

OK first bug ?
Looks like Bodge-it & Scarper have visited the kickstart.

Someone has welded the damn thing on, will have to take the engine out and gently cut around it with a grinding wheel. Ho-Hum.

Hi
Unfortunately people do this because the splines are knackered on the shaft and you have to split the crankcases to change the shaft, so this may turn into more of a job than you hope for, looks like a nice project though, I am in the process of doing a white one at the moment but mine looked much worse than yours having been used as a field bike.

Stripped down the rotary light switch as it was not turning. Centre pin was broken so epoxied it back. Then found several circuits were not making. Turned out to be carbonized. Further cleaning and it works fine now and I also stripped another one I also had and got that one working too. So now have a spare.
