Newbi seeks sound advice
Hi.. I am the proud owner of a 1974 chaly cf70. It's in fair condition, a few rust spots .
It runs great. It's really original... Even the paint work. Do I keep it as is or can I start stripping down and getting powder coated and putting some mods on? I wouldn't want to disgrace or devalue the bike.

Aaaaah... the ever lasting dilemma. :D
Or you go the nostalgic way and run it as it is, or you end up doing a complete restoration which is a rewarding job.

Don't restore on planning to make some money out of a resale, that simply doesn't work.
But the decision is all yours.

IF ONLY IT WAS AS SIMPLE AS WAYNUS MAKES IT SOUND
A complete restoration is the the holy grail but is extremely satisfying to the purist but is then treated as a show pony or perhaps a mild turning back of the clock but upgrading tyres and lighting to enable the safe every day use of the machine, and finally it was built as a fun machine by mr Honda who would probably be modifying it as we speak to give more fun.
You takes your own personal pick but the most important thing is to enjoy it and use it.

Let me tell you my experience then you can make ur own mind up.

1972 St70' full attempt at original resto, burnt a hole in my pocket, still not finished.
1976 St70 lady, custom job, very close, cheaper but no mot yet.
1972 Z50A k2, can't wait to get this done, pocket rocket engine on the way hopefully, but what's the build going to cost?

I guess the moral is spend what you can, don't over do it, just enjoy it!

What great comments, my head and my heart have been torn.
I get why people have a few bikes. One to get pimped, one for tradition and the other just because.
As much as I love the original candy yellow.... Rusts not good.
I Will focus on enjoying the journey. Thanks all and no doubt be
back.
