Pre Paint tasks?
I finaly have the cash to get my bike painted but wondered if anyone has any advise on what to do beforehand?
I was going to change the swing arm bushes as they have lots of play in them and the Headstock bearings to roller type.

The question is do I change this before or after paint?
Any tips from experiance would be great,

Thanks

Hi
You need to remove the headstock bearings prior to paint and dont forget to remove the bearing race top and bottom and due to the agro of removing the old swing arm bushes do this prior to painting as well
Remember to tell the paint shop to mask these 2 areas so as to make reassembly easier or you will be cleaning off excess paint

Thanks Tufty,
Is it best to fit the bushes and headstock bearings before painting?
I'm worried about damaging the paint, never fitted either of them before and don't really know what I'm doing or how hard it is.

Cheers

Hi there, Most definately remove old bushes first, refitting is fairly easy and straightforward though and could be done after refinishing, especially if powder coating/stoving. I've just replaced mine and it was a pig to remove the old ones,I ended up with the whole pivot area glowing red hot(workshop full of acrid rubber smoke) and still took all the pressure of a 2 ton press to persuade 'em to come out.Didnt know it at the time but, being chamfered to aid assembly, one bush(outer sleeve) had been forced into the second instead of pushing it out,so when they finally appeared one was inside the other!!!!
So I'm not sure I did this the best way,but not sure how else you could remove them?
Good Luck anyhow,Dave.

HI
HOW ABOUT DRILLING OUT THE METAL SLEEVE PART AND THEN RUN A HACKSAW BLADE THROUGH THE RUBBER OUTER PIECE MAYBE IN 2 PLACES
