How easy is it to get a v5 for a bike?
I'm considering buying another bike for bits and potential future project but it has no v5 or engine.
I want to use the bits in the short term to get my current project up and running to original spec, but then plan to customises the second bike but want to make sure I can get it on the road.

Advise welcome.

NOT TOOOOO DIFFICULT
FIRSTLY CONTACT HONDA UK WITH THE FRAME NUMBER AND FOR ABOUT £30.00 THEY WILL SUPPLY YOU WITH A DOCUMENT TO SAY WHICH YEAR THEN CALL YOUR LOCAL DVLA OFFICE WHO WILL SEND YOU THE APPROPRIATE PAPERWORK TO FILL IN
UNFORTUNATELY YOU WILL NEED TO TAX THE FRAME AND INSURE IT !!!! AND MAYBE TAKE IT ALONG TO BE INSPECTED BUT IF YOU WANT A YEAR RELATED PLATE IT IS WELL WORTH THE AGRO AND ALSO GET AN MOT CERTIFICATE

I dont think getting it on the road is a worry, if you have any trouble with getting a V5 you always have the option of SVA (Single vehicle approval) and then registering it as a new/rebuilt bike.

Yahoooo I have got myself the original registration number for my Chaly. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

This was due to Blue putting me in touch with a guy who can HPI on a frame number, only cost me £23, so a big THANK YOU to Blue for this ;)

Now when I took my frame & engine to the DVLA in Manchester last week, to be inspected, I was told that the frame number was "not on our system" well it appears it bloody well is  . (just checked on THEIR system)

I now have in front of me the HPI report for MAF 529 P 1st date of registration 05/05/1976, 4 former keepers & the original engine number as well.

So Mr DVLA once I have my log book in hand you will be getting a very strongly worded letter from me explaining that their employees need more training (after they have finished training the chimps at Chester zoo) along with a invoice for a days lost pay (ok I had a couple of days holiday left, but they wont know that ;) )
Yours over the moon & angry
Phil.

Great news Phil,

Don't complain to the Dvla, not 100% sure if they would be to happy that you can do a hpi on a vin :)
take your v5 when you get it and run.

Then hopefully others can use the vin check if needed :)

Best,

Blue ;)
