Re: she just died on me !!!!
Your coil can break down under pressure after a while riding your bike ,it can give the impression of fuel starvation with the bike cutting out but not sudden like and electrical problem do.
Your coil gets warmish when riding your bike, so from cold the bike may seem normal but after a while problems with the coil start to show.
You don't have to listen or take notice of anything I say ,but my father was a mechanic who worked on bikes and cars a good few years ago.. and the things I learnt from him from a very early age have never seen me stranded .
Its only advice at the end of the day !

The coil breaking down when hot is a problem I suffered on cars and gives a fuel starvation like problem when under load ie going uphill in a high gear

Thanks guys can i change it by removing the fuel tank only ? were do you recommend buying one from? the only other issue i have with her is the clutch adjustment, is there a sue fire way of getting it right as i have adjusted it several times and its either slipping when trying to kick her off or at the other the end of the scale it leaps forward when changing into 2nd 3rd ???

any members from east yorkshire district fancy a ride out ???????/

1) loosen the bolt and screw untill there is no pressure when pushing down the kick start
2) Turn the screw 45° right
3) check if th ekick start is still slipping when pushing down
4) Repeat 2+3 untill the kickstart doesn't slip anymore at moderate high pressure
5) Tighten up the bolt and you should be ready to go
If it still isn't working, you'd need to check the internal parts for wear.

And yes, you can reach the coil by removing he tank (and battery).

Coil changed,no joy  now lost at what to do next, she rides perfectly upto 30 mph and would go forever at this speed, but as soon as you open her out to max(39ish) after a mile or so she splutters and dies, i am begining to think it could be a fuel problem?as i have fitted clear inline filters and i noticed that when she died on me one was empty of fuel ? after leaving her for 10 minutes she starts first time and away she goes?? also i have noticed some dirt in the filters(proves they are working, but also the overflow on the carb has started to drip petrol when stood unused after a minute or 2 ? i am reluctant to mess with the carb(i now nothing of them) as it seems to run fine spark plug colour a nice light brown, would i have to reset the settings on the carb if i took apart? :?
cheers guys.

First, try with the fuel cap off. 90% this is the problem. Als, check the bottom of the tank for dirt or rust.
In case this doesn't solve the problem, check your fuel lines, clean carb, replace gaskets and jets if necessary.
Also, check the floater height.
Make sure you refit the filters always in the same direction to avoid excessive dirt in the carb.

Hi

Did you ever find a resolution to this problem, I have the same symptoms, so far I have replaced the condenser, have had the magneto rewound and retested, I have also replace the coil although this was new with less than a few hundred miles on it, I replaced it with another NOS Honda part but I am suspicious as to wether it has degraded over the years and am currently waiting on a new pattern coil to try. Any thoughts would be appreciated as I have spent a few months chasing this issue to no avail.
