Hi :)

Just brought my 1st ST70, completely orginal i think, she's not been on the road since 1984!
She has a few rusty bits and a few broken bits, she was born in 1972 and is it quite good condition considering her age.

My initial plans are to get the MOT sorted and ride about abit this summer.
New exchaust needed, and maybe a carb overhaul as shes not running right, other than that all apears to be good.

Any pre MOT advise would be welcome :)
I am concerned about emmisions so if theres anything i need to look out for then advise welcome.

One of the handle bars is seized and wont drop down, is this a common problem?

Will get some pictures up soon :)

Thanks

Hi
I dont think a seized handle bar is a common problem which part is seized is it the turny knob or just that the bar wont go down

The turney bit, I spray it with wd40 but it wont budge :(
Dont want to force it as I'm trying to to ruin the turney bits, I guess I might have to?
I assume I can buy replacements easily enough?
Thanks,

Hi
if you are patient and allow the wd40 to soak for a while
I assume that if you have undone the other one you can see the problem in getting the wd40 where it is needed and yes you can buy parts from david silver including the seperate handle bars but it can still be pricey.

It happens quite often...
I had threads that were rusted so badly I had to break the knob and handlebar.
The wd-40 can't reach it...

Thanks, will try more WD, to be honest Im not too bothered at this stage that it does not undo.
want to get the engine running and the exhaust sorted for an MOT.

Thanks,

They don't do emissions on motorbikes so unless it is belching oil smoke, it won't matter.

The carb may need a new rubber seal kit which mine did after being unused for 17 years, bought the whole bundle from CSM which covers every rubber piece int he whole carb body. Also a thorough clean out of the carb jets, floats etc with carb cleaner to remoce crud and deposits.

Its not smoking just noisey due to the big hole in the exchuast.
She does stink of petrol though, carb kit is needed for sure a i can see feul leaking under the carb.

I've seen the kit, on CMs and plan to order it in the next few days with an exhaust.
How easy what it to fit?
Im not mechanic but am happy to have a go, I dont suppose anyone can point me in the direction of a service manual can they?

thanks,

If you got all the necesarry parts, it's a pretty easy job.
Dont forget the gaskets (both exhaust gasket and manifold gaskets).
