A nice new seat?
Hello,

I am thinking about a new seat for my ST70 seen a few on the webb all seem to be repro?

I have purchased all honda parts at this stadge to keep the bike as it should be no aftermarket or patern.

Does anybody know were to find or have one for sale.

These little bikes eat money

I bought in a few seats from Vietnam last year and as far as I can tell all the repros sold are from the same manufacturer as mine. OK, I can't be 100% certain but looking at all the photos available they looked IDENTICAL to the ones I was selling (the details are in the base) and I was selling them for about £100 each.
I agree, if you want to stay 100% genuine then you have to pay your money (about £272 from David Silver which I don't think is too bad for a genuine seat) but the copies are pretty damm good and people who bought them seemed very happy. Looking at one without a comparrison I think you would struggle to tell genuine from repro, it is only when you have them side by side the (very slight) differences are evident.
I held one back for myself but as the rebuild costs go up I am beging to think like you Kirk, genuine only which means I may sell my repro seat in the future.

I am waiting for some new rear shooks from Vietnam, sold by Honda Classics on ebay thay state that they are genuine z stock Honda, they were cheap £52 in there sale I was looking at the seat they have on offer! and it does look great.

To be honest I do not wont to go mad on everything new just the bits that are worn out.The bike should ride very nice with the complete overhaul of the front and rear suspension ,plus I have done a total nut and bolt restoration of the wheels with new brakes and bearings plus tyres.
I will put the bike back together by the end on next week and see if its as good as I aspect.

The engine still needs sorting, I got the bike running and it did sound ok, I have removed the engine side casings and sent them of for sandblasting along with the fenders because some nutter had got carried away with a can off silver wheel and they looked crap!

I have set a target of getting the bike on the road for £1150 with a mot and tax ,and to be fair I am looking on target

I have also seen a few for sale on ebay looking cheap but I am sure that once you get deep within the bike lots of parts would have gone home.

I still think a nice working order bike with no real faults and the referb bits I have done should be worth what the bike stands in.

Plus I am on Garden Leave for 7 weeks and took this on as a project and I must say its enjoyment.

Hope the project is better than skip when done

Honda Classics were the poeple I was dealing with but I dealt direct and not via Ebay, they combined postage costs for multiple purchases. Like I said, the seats were very good but if you do decide to buy make sure you are getting the correct model as they offer so many variations, also the prices change regularly (as much as £15 a seat) so bide your time and purchase when the price is lower.
If you fancied one later on drop me a line as I may be selling the one I had earmarked for myself as I am now considering a genuine one.

I looked at the shocks but thought that they were slightly shorter than the stock items, do you know if that is the case?

Beware that what they call 'genuine Honda' may not be the same Japanese parts that we buy over here. I believe that they make a lot of parts for the local market but these are not the same parts that are sold for the European & USA markets.

Hi Kirk

Please let me know when you get the shocks as I am very interested in both the length and also the quality. I did look at them many times but as it turns out I am managing to reuse mine as they are in good operational ondition and just require the top covers repainting, the bottom covers re-chroming and then to give the alloy a bit of a polish.

With regards to the seat PM me your e-mail address and if nothing else I can send you a few photos so you can see what they actually look like from all angles. I still haven't completely made up my mind about a genuine one but it is looking more & more likely I will eventually get one however if I don't go down that route at least you will be fully aware what the pattern ones are like and make an informed decision as to whether you want to get one as well.
