Who knows what I've done?
Hi Everyone

I am the proud owner of a 1972 Honda ST 70. I am 18 and recently completed my A levels. One of my subjects was Design Technology, in this subject i had to come up with a project for my course work. My project ended up being this bike. But, can anyone tell me what it is i have done to the for this project? It is fully functioning and i ride it all the time.

I have attached some links with photos of the bike to help give you a clue.

oversized rear sprocket + missing ht lead + clutch adjuster.
something strange sticking out above and to the left of where the crank /gearbox should be.
did you try to hide an electric motor in it?

Well done you are correct. What i have done here is created a electric Honda st70 motor bike. I have developed way of holding this electric motor into the bike, with out having to adapt or modifying the bike frame in any way. I have then also been able to use the original crank cases at the side of the engine to hide the motor and make it look like the is a original engine inside.
Here is a video showing the bike going up my drive, with my dad on it.

Hi Edward,

I have only just managed to look at your photos (not very computer savvy)
Great job and obviously a lot of thought and work went into it.
Any chance of a bit more technical information on the project? Such as controls/battery/motor mounting/performance/ mileage.
All very interesting. Thanks for your posting.

Hi Ken
The project was very technically difficult taking me a year to complete with a multitude of hurdles to go over to reach the end result.
The easiest way for me to give you information on the bike is by adding in some photos of my portfolio. This was a document 57 A3 pages long, with a word count of 36000.
What i have done is added photos of my portfolio which cover some of the main points within the designing of the frame.
I would like to add that i have not modified the bike in and way this is all bolted together stuff and can be switched for a real engine in around 30 minutes its that easy.

I first had to collect dimensions of the original bike to use in my design.

Then the battery. i am using 2 12000 mah lipo 22.2 v batteries located under the seat.

Now i had to select the motor. this involved calculating fearing ratio and torques.

I had to design the 2 frames from scratch the following pictures show you a little into how i did this.

I then modeled the entire package. On CAD and using 3D printers and laser cutters.

Then everything was made from the real materials and i built it. These photos are before and little techies which is why you will see a different rear sprocket size.

The bike has a top speed of 20 mph and a run time of about 40 minutes. i designed this bike for my dad to take to race event so he can drive it round the paddock and it works perfectly for this.

Now posting the bike on here to see what sort of interest it will attract.

Hope this helps Ken.
