Hi, Guys, my name is Edward I am 17 and restoring another of my monkey bikes. I was wondering if anyone could help me, see I have this bike yet at the bottom of the frame is a weird bracket that wats stamped in at the factory. I have no clue what it is and if it, therefore, changes my bike it would be greatly appreciated if anyone would help me out.

Hi Edward,
Any chance of a photo, as this would help greatly to answer your question?

Hi Edward,
Thank you for the photos.
I have some experience of ST 70's but by no means do I call myself an expert.
You have me beaten with this one, and I can't explain what it is for, and indeed have not seen one like it.
Surely someone out there can explain------Come on Forum members, help this enthusiastic young man out.
We need to encourage more young people,as they will be the future of the motorcycle movement.
Edward,do hope you will get a deluge of replies!!

Regards and good luck,

Ken

Hi Ken,
Thank you for coming back to me, I do hope someone does know because I am baffled.

not only has my bike got an interesting bracket but also it has an interesting locking mechanism on the headstock. it allows the headstock to be detached quickly and the front forks and handlebars all come off with it. I will share some pictures where you hopefully will be able to see it.

I am not sure why it has it but it begs the question of what type of bike this is because honestly, I have no clue.

Hope you will be able to help

I can't see the first of your four images and the other three appear very small, but:

"The CT70 was also sold in the US from 1981 through 1994 with a new serial number format: JH2Dxxxxxxxxxxxxx, rather than the CT70-xxxxxxx format used since 1969. These 'JH2D' bikes are not listed in Honda Japan's production figures above, and are perhaps licensed product"

Hi Edward, I believe what you have there is a very early Honda ST50 possibly a 1969 one because the early ST's had this mechanism to detach the front end off for ease of putting the bike into the back of a cars boot, My Honda ST is a later 1972 version and by this time the mechanism had long finished also mine has stickers saying Honda and yours appears to have holes were by a Honda emblem would of been attached by way of two screws on the top main part of the frame which also suggest that it's an early Honda ST.
Also there should be a frame number if you were sitting on the bike on the bottom of the frame on the left hand side and also a engine number on the bottom of the left hand side of the engine, my frame number is ST70-1384** and my engine number is ST70-1178** which tells me it's a Honda ST 70 yours may have a frame number of say ST50- 12345* which should confirm it's a Honda ST50
