What speed can you get out of your bike?

When I used to use the bike in 2004 I managed about 40ish mph on the flat (at a push)!

A couple of times I had it off the speedo (50+ mph) when going down steep hills but it was a bit cruel and I was worried it might blow up!

40mph is a common speed for the 3-speed 70cc engine.
50mph would really be the max for a standard engine.

Mine did only +35mph when the original engine was still fit. (Modified to manual clutch, stronger oil pump, other plans didn't took place yet)
Now a tuned 4 speed engine is fit. Have not yet tested the top speed.
Should be around 60-65mph with the right ignition and carb.

Here you can make asimulation if you would fit another gearbox, sprockets,...

Maybe one day I build a new bike from scratch and put a bigger engine in. Why is everything so expensive though :(

I was reading something the other day on another site that a guy had managed 85mph and it was GPS verified! Obviously had spent lots of money on it to get that.

First off, a lot of lies are told regarding top speeds.

Also, it is possible to achieve such speeds.
The 'best' option is a full Takegawa engine. Costs? 2000 - 4000£. Easily.
Cheapest way to increase the speed of your bike: fit in a ss50 or c70/90 or Jingcheng DX90 engine.
There are cheap 140cc engines on the market (+-300£ in store) but these are all 12v.
So you've got to change the wiring, bulbs,...

I think I had mine up to almost 40 mph a time or two. I used to think about going faster but not anymore. Do you really want to go soooooo fast on such a little bike? I have a Shadow if I want to go fast. But then, I also gave up fast cars too. I find going slow in my VW Bus so much more rewarding. Pluss, it hauls the Daxs around inside. . . I may go for more power if I get the sidecar for my Dax. . . .

Yeah! Post some pictures when you get the side-car!
There aren't any road legal versions around, are there?

Well, the main thing about speed is that my dax should be able to follow traffic easily on 45mph (70km/h) roads.
To do so, I want it run at least 50mph.
More is suicide, less is uncomfortable.
