paint or polish

Hi, on an original bike should the engine be painted silver, with the exception of the barrel? if so is it the same colour as the silver mudguards.
i am trying to rebuild to as near original spec as possible. should anything be polished?

The two crankcase halves are plain cast alloy (use a 400 ish Scotchbrite and WD40) the flywheel and clutch covers are silver i use ford silver fox (a very old colour) or you can use "Wheel Silver" aerosol which is near enough, correct me if am wrong that's how i have done mine.

hi, thanks for the info, so no alloy to polish. see pictures of many blinged . polished generator cover and clutch seem to be the favourites
