Blonde, dim and female :-)
Hi everyone,

As the title suggests i am blonde and female and when it comes to anything mechanical i know next to nothing.

My dillema is i have been given a complete Honda Chaly 70cc and i don't know a thing about it. The man who gave it to me was a close friend of my dad's and i noticed it sat in the corner of his garage and loved the look of it because it looked cute, he owned it from new. It is complete accept for he lost the key and has now sadly passed away so i cannot ask him any advice.
I want to restore this to its original glory in his memory and for my enjoyment.
Can i get any sort of instruction booklet for this as i don't even know the position of how things like the choke and fuel tap are supposed to be?
Can i purchase a spare key? It says on the ignition H1303 and i bought one with that number of someone on Ebay that's in the US and it doesn't fit?
The bike has only done 6,000 miles from new and is a M reg and has been kept in a garage from new so very solid.
I am fairly practically minded but i've never attempted anything like this before but would dearly love to do as much as possible myself and i would be extremely grateful for any help and advice anyone can please give me.
Many thanks

Hi Stephanie, welcome to the wonderful world of the Chaly, I'm not sure how easy it would be for you to source a new key, but you can get a whole new ignition on eBay for anywhere between a tenner and £20.

With regard to manuals and stuff, below is a link to one of my previous posts in this forum where there is a link to a downloadable copy of the workshop manual for the Chaly which I found online after much searching and then collated into a PDF.

Hope this helps,

All the best

Martin

Hi Stephanie, good luck with the restoration, the Honda chaly is a nice one to start on, I had the same problem with my Honda having no key and if you take it to a large lock and key specialist as I did and I told them the key number and they put the number in the machine and out came a perfect fitting key for my bike costing around £6, the key number can also be found on the steering lock :)
