Polishing up ST70
Morning everyone!

I have started to restore my ST70 and would like to have the aluminium parts looking a shiny as possible and was wondering if anybody would recommend a which process and any products available in the UK that would help to preserve the finish?

You're obviously a bit isolated out in beautiful Alderney but are there any metal polishers, bead blasting or vapour blasting companies any where in the CI?
If there are they are your best bet.
Alternatively I can recommend an excellent company in Croydon, Surrey who have done an excellent job at very reasonable rates on some of my bike bits.If they are of interest let me know.
Third option is to do it yourself using worn-out Scothbrite pan scourers doused in TCut to initially get the gunge off, then get some Belgom Alu alloy polish on line. It's been around for donkeys years and is excellent to buff up old parts.
Hope this helps

Hi Brian!

Yes you are right we are very isolated in Alderney! Even trying to buy the right engine oil has been mission!

I did consider using somewhere in the UK but I have the extra added cost of postage to the mainland!

I am interested in doing it myself as I can say 'I did that'. Would using something like autosol work after cleaning up gunge?

Solvol Autosol is good stuff and has also been around for years. Very good for a final polish.
Must be difficult sourcing suppliers out there but are there any metal finishers in Jersey/Guernsey?
If the bottom end of the engine is in good nick and doesn't need new bearings etc., I wouldn't take it out but just clean it up in situ with the Scotchbrite pads etc., Ideally the barrel and head could probably do with bead blasting but once you've had that done and spent a few quid on one-time job it can be lacquered to preserve the finish. As far as I know the original Honda finish on the barrel and crankcase was never highly polished ally and I believe it was sprayed silver and lacquered.
There's a super Bike jumble at Kempton Pk Racecourse (in Surrey) on 19th September where there's loads of specialist stuff on sale for renovating bikes - stuff you never see in the shops. Worth considering a trip! Food for thought!
