DVLA ENGINE CHANGE NOTIFICATION
This may not be common knowledge but anyone owning a bike that has a different engine fitted to the one shown on the V5C now has to not only fill in the details of the engine no. In the box provided on the inside page on the V5C but also now has to provide evidence from either a dealer that the engine was changed before the dealer or previous owner took possesion of it, or an invoice showing the engine had been fitted.
I suggest anyone in this situation looks at www.gov.website and look at ."engine change" requirements.
I've just had to go through this but the bike was bought privately and had 6 previous owners since 1973 so absolutely no chance of finding out when the engine change was done. The last owner shown on the V5C has died.
I contacted the DVLA and explained that I couldn't comply with any of the requirements stated on the form and they advised me to send a covering letter of explanation with photos of the replacement engine in the frame + frame number + reg.no. so they can issue a new V5C showing the current engine no.
I would advise anyone selling a bike with a different engine do this so the new owner can check the V5C details are correct.
I'm waiting for the new updated V5C to come back so watch this space.

Re: DVLA ENGINE CHANGE NOTIFICATION
Did you get an updated V5 back ok? Just interested because I had read about this too, yet the motorcycle shop where I take my bikes for MOTs hadn't heard about this rule.

(Just out of interest, they also hadn't heard about a new MOT rule to come into force that tyres must not be older than 6 years)

Yes I did get a new V5.The dealer I bought it from had no idea this was a relatively new DVLA requirement and would'nt cooperate by providing any documentation so I spoke to the DVLA and explained that in my case that there was no possibility of finding out who, where and when the engine was changed. They advised me to send a covering letter explaining the situation with a pic of the bike and one of the engine number. It took about a month but eventually got a new updated V5 from Swansea.I didn't know about the 6yr old tyre rules.
Hope this is of interest to others.
