Hi
New member to the club, owned a 77 st70 for around 12 years which has been in my loft in a washing basket for most of it! Prior to it's exile it was shotblasted back to bare metal , I had no log book for it when I bought it but I was certain it was kosher, it did however have a reg plate and a matching tax disc which ran out in 1986!!!This last weekend I plucked up courage and phoned the DVLA to see if the registration was still valid, and to my surprise it was still on their system and they could tell me what month the tax ran out, so hopefully 25 quid should see me with the vital paperwork. I was leaning towards giving it a big makeover ,big engine, proper hydraulic forks, and adding a lot of lightness!! But having had a good rummage through the basket I realise it is so near to being totally complete that I cant bring myself to change it, one concession to standard is that I have resprayed it candy emerald green (it was originally candy red) , A fairly lengthy process, 1k primer, 1k basecoat silver, 1k candy dyed clearcoat , and finally 2k clearcoat on the top, It looks fairly reasonable. I intend to re plate all the bright zinc plated parts, seat catch, wheel spacers, chain adjusters, brake arms etc etc,and if they turn out well I will upload some pics of the before and after,
The plating kit is around 60 quid, but I have a second st70 (candy red 1973 low miles barn find)for my next project, so it should earn it's keep!, I'm not going for the full concours rebuild , but it should turn out to be a very tidy, useable machine The colour choice of candy green was mulled over for a time, I have candy dyes in red X2 , brown, yellow, blue' orange and green , the yellow was a close second, If any of you fine people out there have a UK type rear light/numberplate
bracket thingy, or an inlet manifold for a st70 I would be interested in buying it.......... for sensible money.

Cheers
