HI
I am not aware of an alternative tank only that the very early ones had a plastic fuel tank but rubber mounting blocks are no longer available for them, you would be better off with a repro one and look after it

Or get a decent second hand plastic CT70 tank.
It holds up a little more fuel too.

But if you get a metal tank, you should be fine for another 20 years.
You can apply some sort of curing if you like.
And get an in-hose fuel filter to prevent dirt getting into your carb.

Re: replacement fuel tank
This subject prompts me to raise the question of the adverse effects of ethanol in modern petrol which I understand creates some serious problems and attacks the inside of fuel tanks, especially plastic and fibreglass ones. I believe the current ethanol content in todays petrol is about 5% but is due to increase considerably in the coming years.
I also believe this is why old bikes often won't start with old stale fuel still in their tanks that's probably been there for years, and has clogged up venturi passages in the carburettors.
Before I ramble on and risk posting incorrect information I'm sure there's someone out there who can elaborate on this subject with much more definitive info. than I can, so I suggest it's a topic worth discussing if the moderators think its appropriate.
I rest my case!

Interesting input, never thought about that.
Within the current regulations, they are allowed to add up to 10% of Ethanol.

Is there a product around that will treat the inside of a new metal tank before I fit it ?

Yes, such products are on the market.
However, I do not have any experience with them.
The only thing I heard off is that some curing of some brands let go after a while, which can cause great damage to carb & engine.
So do your research and buy wisely.
