Hello, new member from Australia K0 Dax
Hello all,
I've been a long time reader and this is my first post. I have always been into Monkeys and have a few nice ones in my collection. However, last Easter (April this year) I came across a lovely ST70 K0. It was straight out of an old fallen down shed and since ive been doing it up to ride everyday to work as I work about 1km form where i live.
The photos are a small part of how its going. I took the original motor out and i'm keeping it perfect for a rainy day.
Regards
Nick

Hi Wynston,

welcome to the forum :D

Nice to see a DAX down under, credit for posting pictures on your 1st post :D
We like pictures here too.

Have to got it on the road yet?
I'm just about to start a new job, 8 miles from my house and also intend on riding to work in the fair weather.

Guess the engine of yours might sit awhile before you restore it due to the lack of rain down under?

Cheers,

Blue

Hi Blue,
Its not registered yet, putting the 12v loom through it and another back guard, taillight blinkers etc, we need all that good gear for rego down here.
I'm then having problems making that front tyre fit properly under that low front guard, but it should be sorted this week.

The original engine is running and operational, just needs a better kick spline on it as its a big dodgy and slips every now and then. Plus the new motor does 120km/h.

Cheers.

Hi Wynston,

It's just as hard here to register a bike, they like to make us jump through hoops, and prove the bikes age and that its original.

Recently did a 12v conversion on my 1976 ST well worth the effort. (Recent to me is in the last 2 years, I'm a slow builder :D )

What engine have you dropped in it and tyre problems? Over sized by any chance?

Bit slow here of late, think the sun is getting to the natives :D

Hey Blue,
Yeah tyres are 12" and front is rubbing the guard just enough to stop it effectively rolling.

The engine is a 140cc chinese motor with a racing head, its pretty strong. It has mikuni carby and the webike 12v electrics. This weekend im planning to get it running with the electrics and finally turn it over, im expecting it to be loud as hell with that new pipe. We shall see!

need to try and find some blinker ears for the forks as originally they were ground off for some reason.

Cheers.

Thought they were 12"s just raise the guard a bit or get some lower profile tyres :(

Like the pipe, just check the clearance to the ground when you turn right :D

Personally I don't like the look of the blinker ears they stick out too much, I've been thinking this through on one of my builds but don't have the answer yet. Checking the uk MOT guidelines for indicators but it's a bit vague.

Have fun this weekend hope it goes well :)

Hi Wynston
Love what you have done with your machine!
I have just last weekend picked up the same bike from a mate in Blayney.
I like the idea of keeping the original engine fresh, does the replacement engine bolt straight in and if so where can I get one? Also do you know what year model your bike is, my frame number is ST70 138XXX, guessing yours is similar?

Hi Brian,
You have the detachaenfront end as well, so it's a 1969 st70 k0.
Of you have the detachable throttle cable with alligator clip keep that as they are really hard to come by.
All Chinese motors that are lay down will bolt in. Lifan is very popular but mine is a jialing 140cc with a performance head and mikuni carby.
The only trouble is you'll need to go 12v with a new engine. It has major advantages but you need to run a 12v battery and reg/rec coil etc
