DVLA Documentation
Hi
I have owned an early/mid 1970's ST70 since the early 1990's. It is 90% complete and I purchased most of the bits to complete it at the time.
I am now ready to restore having used it as a paddock bike for few years!
I have the engine no and frame but no registration plate number or documents. The guy who I bought it from was local to me but has passed away.
Can anyone please explain how I go about getting it back on the road?
Thanks
Rob

Re: DVLA Documentation
I'm doing almost exactly the same as you and as far as I'm aware this is the procedure.

My ST has just passed probably it's first ever MOT after a 2 year rebuild from a pile of junk. Mine has absolutely no numberplate or documentation of any description.
The frame number is
First thing to do is get yours up to an MOT-able standard and then book an MOT.
Take good quality pics of both side of the bike + a close up of the frame number and a print them out postcard size, plus a copy of the MOT certificate with all relevant info and send it to the VJMC with a covering letter to get a dating certificate. Type in VJMC on Google and look on their website under Dating Service. It tells you all you need to know.
Then get it insured and submit it + MOT cert and insurance cert. to the DVLA to get an age related number plate and new VRD
Hope this is correct - I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
I'll post any developments on this forum as things progress.

Thanks Brian
That is very helpful.
Can I assume you had no problem getting an MOT and insurance without a number plate?

Re: DVLA Documentation
I'll let you know about insurance after I've had a reply from the VJMC regarding a dating cert. This has to be submitted to the DVLA with an insurance cert-providing I can get one as its a one-off Honda special. The MOT correctly identifies the model as an ST70 as stamped on the frame.Even though it now has a 125 engine all this info should be enough to enable the DVLA to issue a reg.no hopefully date related (should be K or L suffix from 1972/3) if I'm lucky.

To keep it strictly legal I think the insurance co should be notified of the bigger engine which may affect the premium.
One crisis at a time please!
Watch this space for further news-may take a while as beaurocratic wheels may not whizz round at a speed we'd like them to!
