Hi all, thought it was time I posted some pics of the restoration of my ST70 aka: "The Beast".
I won him on eBay last June. At the time I owned a Jincheng DX Dax which had served me well, but I wanted a genuine ST to keep my Chaly company in the shed. As you can see from the first pic, he looked a bit rough around the edges and hadn't been on the road since 1991, but he was a sound bike and a runner... just lol.

A couple of pics once home:

Jamming with the Fake Dax:

I didn't do much with him for a few weeks, but one day I noticed something wasn't right. It looked like OHC had had a bump at some point in his past as the rear end was skew-whiff.

After stripping the back half down, it became apparent that the only damage was a slightly bent swing arm, bent mudguard and tail lamp unit. Fortunately the frame was all straight.
A couple of months pass and I had sold my 'Fake Dax' to a friend, so I thought I'd get OHC back on the road. I fitted a new barrel & piston rings, rebuilt the original carburettor as he had a Chinese one fitted when I bought him and fitted the chrome tail lamp unit and Kitaco exhaust pipe that I had on the Fake Dax. Also fitted was a spare swing arm my mate had and a new stand/footpeg unit. I then had to helicoil the threads in the head for the inlet manifold bolts and fitted some chrome mudguards which came from OORacing.
Finally, to complete the renovation, I resprayed the wheel rims and hubs silver, fitted some nice Bridgestone tyres and a new number plate completed the look.

After his first run, I tweaked the carb and setup the timing and he went alot better.

I always had a vision for OHC though. I wanted him to look as nice as my Chaly, which meant he had to be repainted. A couple of good friends of mine had just gone into business together starting up a vehicle bodyshop, so I thought I'd get them to do the paintwork. He's now in pieces and all the painted parts (excluding headlamp bowl) have been shot-blasted and are currently in primer.
Evening 1 of stripdown:

Evening 2 of stripdown:

Finally, all the parts ready for paint. Don't worry, I did remove the stickers and badges before taking him to the bodyshop.

Now you may've noticed no swing arm in that pic. Well, I want to do some mods to OHC and there's probably one that some people may not agree with, but I can't bring myself to modify my Chaly and I miss the fun I had on the Fake Dax.
It has been a big headache deciding what parts to buy because I want to keep OHC looking 'period', by that I mean, original forks, 'German Helmet' mudguards, original 6V headlamp and headlamp switch. I also wanted to keep the original switchgear, but I've decided to go with CNC alloy switchgear (left hand all-in-one), Kitaco alloy levers and a CNC alloy throttle twist grip unit. I've also got him an alloy swing arm
Here are some pics of OHC in primer:

I've still got a few things to buy, but I'm recovering from a hip replacement, so they'll have to wait until I'm back at work.
Hope you've enjoyed the pics and reading my essay lol.
Cheers
Jim
