Hello everyone,

Newbie to this forum. I am currently in the process of refurbishing my Honda ST70, 4000 miles on the clock.

A little background on the bike...
My late father bought it in the 70s off a guy who had it from new. A few years later my father sold it back to the same guy. And then a few years after that my dad bought it back off him again, and it's remained in our family ever since! We used to use it when we kids to drive around our fields on but it's been sat in a stable for 5 or 6 years untouched and unremembered.

I dug it out a few days ago with the intention to get it up and running again and hopefully get it back on the road (last time it was taxed was in the 90s). It wasn't in as bad condition as I thought it might be but it still needs a good bit of TLC! Managed to clean most of the rust off it, put some fresh fuel and oil in, air in the tires etc. Gave it a kick and it sprung to life straight away! Not bad for a bike that hasn't been used once in 6 years! Although it started it definitely isn't running as well as it should - coughs, bangs and splutters, if you give it too much throttle it cuts out, battery is obviously flat so nothing electrical works (lights, horn etc). So the plan is to do a bit of work on it to get it running smoothly! Think the carb needs cleaning out and there are some unsightly rust spots if anyone has any tips on how to get rid of these...?

Hi and welcome
If you look back on previous posts you will discover all sorts of things about the electrics on these little bikes such as lights don't work unless the motor is running and lots of other strange things make sure you fit an inline fuel filter to stop crud slugging up your clean carb
And whereabouts in the world are you as there maybe a forum member near you who can offer assistance

Welcome to the forum,
Great little bike you've got there! I also love it's been in the family for so long.

Hi Josh,

I'm in Oxfordshire too.

I've got an ST70 and an ST90.

How's the project going?

Cheers
