Frame Numbers - British & American.
Chaps, does anyone know if there is a correlation between UK and US frame numbers? I have found quite a bit of information on the net regarding CT70 frame numbers but little about UK ones. The US frames are prefixed with CT70 but ours are obviously ST70, is there any close relationship with dates and years hidden in the following numerals? If a US frame was CT70 137... from what I have read and seen it would come from 1970, would this be true of a ST70 137 frame too? Or do the frame numbers not relate to each other as the US swallowed frames at a faster rate than the UK, if you follow what I mean?

The only thing that they seem to share is the 6-digit frame numbers for very early ones.

CT70H * 200 0001 * 1972 - 1973 * Type CT 70 HK1

So would that mean that if my frame number starts ST70 147... That it was made somewhere between 69 and 71 ?

If it's a 6-digit number it was probably built before 1972.

Thanks Waynus. I need all the supporting evidence I can gather if I want to stand a good chance of getting an age related registration number, otherwise it'll be a Q plate :-(
