Winter/Spring "Lardy Dax" project..............Finally
Hello all.

As you are probably aware I broke my collar bone after being thrown off my new creation on Saturday :( :( and was at a loss to know why it happened :?: It was a lovely warm day and the driving conditions were perfect, so why did it happen. After getting the bike home and conducting a post-mortem, I think I have come to the most likely conclusion.

Let me first build up the picture. As you all know this build has been a bit of a bugger what with the electrics and all, but put that to one side. I finally got her up and running, and changed the engine oil for new. Now's the time to take her out on her first run. Now bearing it in mind shes just had an oil change, I thought I'd take it nice and easy for the first 20 miles or so, then slowly progress with the speed. Well it was a good job that I did, because after approximately 5 miles the back end started to wobble, slowly at first then faster and faster. I liken it to a car towing a caravan, when you see the caravan wobble from side to side, and it gets to the point of no return, that was me. Luckily though I was only going about 30 mph
It threw me off, and I landed with all my weight on my shoulder................SNAP....OUCH!! :? Left Broken Collar Bone.jpg SAM_0284.JPG Back to the post-mortem......Because the rear tyre is a huge 150x80x10 I think the original owner had installed an inner-tube that is far too small, probably a 3.50 x10. This would certainly put to much strain on it trying to fill such a big tyre :? So what with the warm day, warm road surface, ill fitting inner tube and my luck, it all amounted to my final exit in a heap on the floor. I have been advised that the correct tube for that size tyre should be the one they use in the old type Mini cars!

Anyway as luck would have it, the only damage to my bike was a dented rear wheel and a ripped handle bar grip. :) For once Luck was on my side (depending how you look at it)

Just thought I'd show you all some photo's of the very nearly finished "Lardy Dax"

All the best Si

Hello Mate,

I seem to be posting more pictures of my medical history than my bikes lately.

I was toying with the idea of a tubeless wheel, but haven't found one that is 5.5" wide and not stupid money. I've sourced a mini innertube for £8, and can get a replacement wheel for £45.

Can't do alot yet anyway

See you soon, all the best Si
