Mono shock single-sided swing arm.
Hello all,

Like this site, everything seems to be slowing down to an almost stop. :( Now that the ravages of winter are fast approaching, it looks as though most of us will be visiting our sheds / garages more than ever.

I will be one of those

I am toying with the idea of replacing the rear swing arm, with one of those single-sided mono shock types from KEPSPEED. These were about £3000 When thay fist hit the market about 2years ago, now there about £500-800 Still alot of money, but hey why not

My question is A; Has any body fitted these before and if so was it an easy operation?
B; Does anybody have any photos of this in situ or know of any sites that have?
C; What does it handle like?

Many thanks Si

The mono shock swing arms were originaly produced by G'Craft and Over Racing.
Kepspeed is a brand that makes copies of most of their parts. Quality is pretty good, but as good and nice as the original ones.
You can find used original parts in perfect condition for around 300-400€.

However, all offers and pictures I came across are double sided swingarms for monoshocks... sorry...

Hello Waynus

Thanks for that, but it was for the single-sided mono shock that I really had my desires on ;)

This is the one I've been looking at.
mono-swingarm-kepspeed-for-dax[1].jpg It doesn't show me the thing on the bike, so I don't know what it would look like, how far it pokes out, +4 +10 +16cm who knows?

Hi Si,
Slowing down it sure has, personally I've been working away for the last month hence my absence.
Strangely I did stumble across two bikes in Paris whilst walking about and saw a few monkeys.
I did take pictures of them but I've been so busy with work I've not had time to upload them.

Don't like the idea of a single sided swing arm, might be wrong but it makes no sense to load up one side?
I like the mono shock on a Monkey as it looks like its balanced but I can't see how you could stop you frame flexing on an ST if you hooked up a swing arm in that manner.

Just my thoughts.

I have one last trip away in the next few weeks them I'm home, hopefully will get some shed time and will get the opertunity to work on my bike, I'm so close,,,,,

Hi Blue,

I know what you mean about the "Balance"thing, but It's somthing I've been looking at for quite somtime now. :?

The engineering on these monos are brilliant, and we all know how strong the frames are its a question of taste I think.

I'll keep you updated when I get some more news.

Hi Guys,
The loading on the frame would be more or less the same regardless of the swing arm type.
The forces applied to the wheel (bearings) are what would change, being supported at only one side.
Obviously from an engineering view point, double sided would be better(stiffer) but a single sided can be designed to be as good(or better)
Personally I would view this mod as purely a cosmetic (visual) Mod.
It also looks like it will increase your wheelbase a good amount

Hello Dave,

Just as I thought, the frame will be more than man enough to take it. The question is how far out would the wheel base be, and would it look a bit silly stuck out so far? :(

I would like it to look something like the original, and not like the wheelie bars of a dragster :o :o

That would be my problem, just too long for me, would look odd and as you say Si, a bit like a drag bike!

Personally, if you want to mod in this area, I would opt for a mono-shock with a two sided swing arm.

The first pic. of waynus's looks neat and tidy(and minimal)compared to a single sider and this set up should give good results in suspension performance etc.

That's my thoughts but of course you do these mods to make your bike individual and different to everyone else's so its your call...........

Cheers

Hello Chief,
I know what you mean about the "look" of the bike and the first one of Waynuses pictures does look really nice.
Does anybody know wether this double sided swing arm can be bought as a complete kit without having to fabricate or modify the frame :?

No, no plug 'n play kits are available.
You'll have to weld on and re-inforce the mounting system.
Also, I advise to use a not-to-far-extended swing arem (+4cm) because it will put a lot of stress on the sheet metal frame.
(depending on the position and quality of the home made fixation point)
