Greetings from South Africa
Hello All,

I'm new to this great forum, already re- learned so much about these fantastic little bikes.
I have been involved with them in one way or another since the 1970's and now busy with a "second restoration" of 2 Dax's, the first was just to get them running safely about 15 years ago when i taught my 2 boys to ride.

I have a number of spares including Mini Trail stuff and was wondering if there are any fellow South African members on this forum to get in touch with and perhaps do some trading of parts.

Hello White or is it Wit?

My Afrikaans is nie so goed nie maar much better than my French! Had a look at your white Dax (really neat by the way!!) and is probably the same specification as the 2 that I have i.e. indicators and the high front fender. I have an interesting 100 cc motor amongst all my bit and pieces, it has exactly the same engine casings as the Honda horizontal engines and is made in India and called KINETIC. Wonder if anyone on the forum knows anything about Kinetic engines?
I'm away for a week or two and will post some pic's of an African Dax when I return.

Cheers,
Zadax

Well what do you know! "ja man" I'm also from Suid Africa in a little place called Fish Hoek near Cape Town and now reside in the UK.
I was 11 when I had my first dax and I would spend my entire weekend in the bush on that thing. Boy were they great times, it took a real pounding but would always get me home. Here is a pic of the poor abused thing :? . It originally came from France hence the reason I acquired another.

It was sold to one of my Dad's mates who 10 years later had the frame and various bits galvanised and I ended up putting it all back together for him. funny thing is I can't remember much about it other than popping wheelies on it after I had back together.

It would be great to be able to track the bike down again but my family lost touch with Allan Cohen who had the bike so no idea where in SA it is now. But I bet it is still out there somewhere.
Allan! If you ever read this get in touch.

Hello Again,

Certainly a small world, your bound to find a South African where ever you go in the world.
I know Fish Hoek, my wife and I were there a few months ago. I live in what was once the Transvaal now Gauteng Province on the Highveld , no rust problems but low power output because of the altitude, so galvanising your frame back in the day was probably a good idea and its probably still out there some where. My 2 Daxes have interesting histories, one of them I knew of in the 70's and was re-acquainted with it in the 90's when it was about to be sold as scrap!! The other one was once used in the Swaziland Army :?: , I still have some parts and bits with military green paint on them!!

Saw a few posts on this forum by "DAX_IN_AFRICA" and wondering if he is still out there, if so, contact me about local Daxes.

Cheers,
Sean.

What would be the difference between a European ST-70 and an Afrikaner ST-70?
Ok... don't tell me its right hand and left hand drive ;)

Hello!

If you remove the exhaust baffle the engine note is in Afrikaans (a local language) I'm sure yours would have a French sound??
Anyone in SA have a chain guard for me?? My sons cleared out their garage and I think the chain guard went with it................

Cheers,
zadax
